Don’t Shoot the Messenger

It happened again recently, my 7-year- old diabetic daughter experienced an insulin reaction that dropped her blood sugar to extremely low levels. Only the Lord knows what the outcome may have been had some very unusual circumstances not altered the course of events.

Like most people, I was in deep sleep at three o’clock in the morning. My dreams were interrupted with the sound of shattered glass. As you can imagine, I jumped to my feet ready to investigate the cause and defend my family against any would-be intruder.

We had done very well in the tournament. The little league baseball team had endured the hot Oklahoma sun, and the coach was ready to celebrate with his up-and-coming major leaguers.

Everyone was hungry and tired. Feeding the crew in short order was a priority. Having multiple food options would keep everyone happy. What better place to build camaraderie than the local buffet?

An elderly man lay in his bed dying of cancer. The doctors had done all they could to make him comfortable, but the cure would not come. The cancer would win. Upset that the end was near, the man appealed to God asking Him why He did nothing to end cancer. God replied, “I sent the answer for the cure many years ago with a little girl who would someday become a medical researcher. Unfortunately, her parents chose to abort her before she had a fighting chance.”

One of my favorite Christmas songs claims the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year. For the most part, I agree. But that might not be true for everybody.

I had the recent privilege of being one of more than 3,000 people to experience an afternoon at Falls Creek listening and laughing to the funny stories and songs of Mark Lowry. Without question, it was one of the highlights of my Falls Creek adventures. And believe me, I’ve had many.
